I was so happy the Summer I bought Bambi I became the proud owner of this rebellious little vehicle. She provided me with the freedom to roam the coast of France. I had done the previous season with no transport and the Summer I got Bambi the whole area of the south-west opened up for me and I could explore the beaches I craved to make it to.
Unfortunately, she didn’t have the strongest of engines so I did have some adventures that at times didn’t stretch the freedom to all the great heights I was hoping for – however I did become a bit more savvy about old skool engines. I came to enjoy the thrill of not knowing if she would start in the mornings. Bambi had a sticky choke, if I pulled the choke out when the engine was cold she would not always start up – after debating this for a few months I found out I was pushing the choke back in but it was sticking and leading me to flood the engine!
The best bit was coming off the P&O ferry to Bilboa and having to bump start Bambi off the ferry after convincing the ferry workers to give her a push. Like a scene from Del boy trotter and co I had arrived in a cloud of black smoke! I admit she wasn’t the best for being a clean green mirco machine. The environment could probably have done better off with out her large quantities of admissions.
However when she did start she gave the minimum speed limit of 90 K on motorways a steely run for her money – I’m suprised we didn’t get pulled over as we often broke this minimum rule and I encountered a few angry french motorway users en route up to Hossegor!
the best bit was when her wing mirrors wouldnt cope with the sheer speed and they would move in and I would do my best effort to get the spatchular from the kitchen of my trusty mobile home and use it to open the oposite window and push the wing mirror out so I can check on coming traffic to pull out – ofcourse the joys of an English car on french roads and no electric windows only added to excitement.
The best bit was when I would have some peeps bring me coffee with a surf check Nice!!
